Entrepreneurship is the driving force of economic growth, and in a country like India, where agriculture plays a vital role in the economy, agri-tech startups are shaping the future of the sector. Over the years, IIM Kashipur FIED has been at the forefront of fostering innovation, empowering startups, and strengthening the agribusiness ecosystem in India.
Since 2019, with the generous support of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, IIM Kashipur FIED has incubated sixty plus agri-focused startups under the RKVY-RAFTAAR Agri-Business Initiative, providing financial assistance ranging from INR 5 lakhs to INR 25 lakhs with a significant government grant of INR 9.6 crores over the past five years. Beyond funding, these startups have benefited from capacity-building programs, mentorship, and networking opportunities that have enabled them to scale and thrive in the competitive agribusiness landscape. The financial success of these agri startups is noteworthy, having raised over INR 300 crores in external funding from prestigious venture capital firms such as Omnivore, Bertelsmann, Omidyar Network, and Sequoia Capital India.
The impact of IIM Kashipur FIED extends beyond incubation. Through nine successful editions of Uttishtha, its flagship annual entrepreneurship summit, over 500 agri-tech startups and community-based enterprises have been provided a platform to showcase their innovations to policymakers, investors, government officials, and the general public. Furthermore, IIM Kashipur FIED has played a pioneering role in launching India’s first Agricultural Entrepreneurship Consortium, bringing together higher education institutions, industry professionals, researchers, and students to foster discussions on emerging trends, best practices, and startup support programs.
This Startup Coffee Table Book is a testament to the remarkable journey of IIM Kashipur FIED in nurturing entrepreneurship, driving innovation, and transforming India's agricultural startup ecosystem. It not only celebrates the achievements of startups but also highlights the collective efforts of industry leaders, policymakers, and academia in shaping a sustainable and technology-driven future for agribusiness.

Agripreneurship is the cornerstone of a sustainable and resilient rural economy, playing a transformative role in shaping the future of Indian agriculture and rural enterprises. At IIM Kashipur, we firmly believe that fostering an enabling ecosystem for agri-startups is essential for economic growth, employment generation, and rural prosperity. Through the Foundation for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development (FIED), we have been committed to nurturing innovation, supporting agripreneurship, and strengthening the startup ecosystem in Uttarakhand.
FIED’s efforts in bridging the gap between rural enterprises and global markets have led to the incubation of numerous agri-startups, enabling them to scale their businesses, improve agricultural value chains, and contribute to the economic empowerment of farming communities. One of our key initiatives has been our collaboration with the Department of Rural Development, Uttarakhand, where we have trained over 300 micro-entrepreneurs engaged in agriculture and allied activities. By working closely with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and cluster-level federations, we have helped entrepreneurs develop business plans, enhance financial literacy, and adopt effective community business management practices.
Beyond incubation and training, FIED’s initiatives such as Uttishtha—The Annual Entrepreneurship Summit, the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Consortium, and Startup Bootcamps have provided platforms for networking, knowledge-sharing, and showcasing agri tech innovations. These efforts have not only strengthened the agribusiness ecosystem in Uttarakhand but also contributed to India’s larger vision of promoting sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.
As we celebrate the success stories of agripreneurship featured in this Coffee Table Book, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the startups, mentors, investors, and government stakeholders who have been an integral part of this journey. At IIM Kashipur, we remain deeply committed to fostering regional entrepreneurship, empowering agribusiness leaders, and driving meaningful change in the agricultural sector.
